At Tree, we're dedicated to revolutionising the amount of electricity consumed by refrigeration - as currently it consumes 20% of global electricity and is responsible for more than double the emissions of shipping and aviation combined.
Our innovative technology presents a ground-breaking solution aimed at slashing electricity consumption in refrigeration systems by up to 40%.
By addressing the energy-intensive nature of refrigeration, our technology not only helps mitigate climate change but also yields significant cost savings for industries and sectors reliant on refrigeration.
Our HVAC and Refrigeration Process:
Our two-phase turbine expander for CO2 refrigeration systems provide a sustainable, high-performance addition to CO2 trans-critical systems capable of retrofit.
Here’s how we do it:
01.
The standard refrigeration cycle starts at the compressor where the working fluid is compressed, increasing the pressure and temperature. The gas cooler rejects heat to atmosphere.
02.
Our revolutionary two-phase flow expander replaces the expansion device, capturing expansion energy, converting it to electrical energy, and delivering a low-pressure, liquid ready for the evaporator.
03.
The cycle completes with the liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator to absorb the heat from the cooled space.

In agriculture, refrigeration and HVAC systems are crucial for preserving harvested crops, maintaining optimal conditions for livestock, and ensuring agricultural productivity and food safety.
FAQ's
What are the advantages of Tree’s technology?
Our refrigeration system is much more energy efficient than current available technologies and can reduce the energy input required for refrigeration by up to 40%, thus significantly reducing operating costs.
How does the retrofit work?
The turbine expander can be fitted as a bypass to current expansion devices, providing for redundancy.
What is the main application for this technology?
Tree’s HVAC and commercial refrigeration was designed and created with the primary focus of helping the supermarket industry to reduce electricity usage and CO2 emissions whilst also saving money. The technology is also applicable to Heat Pumps and other similar thermodynamic cycles.
Why is efficient refrigeration so important?
Refrigeration is a critical component of modern life, but it comes at a significant environmental cost. Accounting for 20% of global electricity consumption, refrigeration generates over twice the carbon emissions of shipping and aviation combined.
